CityDoc is excited to announce that they are now offering rapid COVID-19 testing with results in as little as 15 minutes.

The rapid results are made possible through antigen testing. Antigen testing detects the proteins of the virus that causes COVID-19. Antigen tests are specific to the virus they are testing but are not as sensitive as molecular tests. The other forms of COVID-19 testing check for genetic material of the virus on the molecular level and have to be sent to an outside lab. The collection of the sample for both tests remains the same, a nasopharyngeal swab.

How accurate are the results of the antigen testing?
If you have a positive test result, you likely have COVID-19. The proteins from the virus that causes COVID-19 were found in your sample. Therefore, it is also likely that you may be placed in isolation to avoid spreading the virus to others. There is a minimal chance that this test can give a positive result that is wrong (a false-positive result). Your provider will work with you to determine how best to care for you based on your test result(s) along with your medical history and your symptoms.

A negative test result means that proteins from the virus that causes COVID-19 were not found in your sample. This test can give an incorrect negative result (false negative) in some people with COVID19. It is possible that you have COVID-19 even though the test is negative. If your test result is negative, your provider will consider the test result together with all other aspects of your medical history (such as symptoms, possible exposures, and geographical location of places you have recently traveled) in deciding how to care for you. The amount of antigen in a sample may decrease the longer you have symptoms of infection. Specimens collected after you have had symptoms for more than seven days may be more likely to be negative. A swab may be taken to confirm the negative result with an outside laboratory in 2-5 days.

Getting a test is no longer only restricted to people with symptoms or those with confirmed exposure to the virus. If you believe you have been exposed and/or are experiencing symptoms, visit the CityDoc location nearest to you for a rapid result test. Use online check-in to reserve your spot, but no appointment is needed, you can just walk-in.

When you arrive at the clinic, we allow you to check-in and then leave. You will not have to wait in the waiting room. We will let you know when it is your time to be seen by text or phone call.  We are open every day with extended evening and weekend hours.
