Walk-In Clinic Prices in Dallas: What a Visit Costs
Most people searching for walk-in clinic prices want one thing: a number. Here it is. A standard medical evaluation at CityDoc costs $135 if you’re paying out of pocket, at any of our four Dallas–Fort Worth locations. No appointment, no membership, no surprise facility fee tacked on afterward.
That $135 covers the medical evaluation. Some things cost extra – an X-ray, lab work, stitches – and we publish those prices too. Below is the full breakdown, what’s included, what isn’t, and how it compares to an emergency room visit for the same problem.

These are CityDoc’s self-pay rates. You pay this whether or not you have insurance, if you choose to skip the claim.
The full list lives on our self-pay pricing page.
What the $135 Medical Evaluation Fee Covers
The medical evaluation fee is what you pay to be seen, examined, and diagnosed by a provider. It includes:
- Vitals and a full physical examination
- Diagnosis and a treatment plan
- Prescriptions sent to your pharmacy
- A work or school note if you need one
That’s the base. If your provider can diagnose and treat you without imaging or lab work – which covers a large share of visits for colds, sore throats, rashes, ear infections, and minor injuries – $135 is the whole bill.
What Costs Extra, and Exactly How Much
Add-ons are priced individually. You’ll know the cost before anything is run.
X-rays – $25
If you’ve rolled an ankle or taken a hard fall, an X-ray tells us whether it’s a sprain or a break. Our on-site X-ray service means you don’t get sent somewhere else and billed twice. A visit with an X-ray comes to $160 total.
Lab tests – $25 for the first, $10 after
Strep, flu, COVID, mono, urinalysis, and pregnancy tests are run in-house. The first lab is $25 and each additional one is $10. A visit with a strep test is $160. A visit with strep and flu together is $170.
Rapid STI testing is priced separately at $90 and can be done without a full evaluation.
Stitches and procedures – $50 to $100
A simple laceration repair is $75. A complex one is $100. Draining an abscess is $75, and removing a splinter or other foreign body is $50. A cut that needs stitches runs $210 total – the $135 visit plus the $75 repair.
Shots and injections – $18 to $25
A flu shot on its own is $18. A medication injection given during your visit, such as a steroid or an antibiotic, is $25.
Physicals Are Priced Separately
School, sports, and camp physicals for kids up to 18 years old are $35 – not $135. This is a separate flat rate, and it’s one of the lowest published prices in the DFW area. An adult or employment physical is $135. Details are on our physicals page.
Walk-In Clinic Prices With Insurance vs. Without
The $135 is the self-pay rate for a medical evaluation. If you’re using insurance, what you pay depends on your plan, copay, coinsurance, & deductible.
With insurance, you’ll typically owe an urgent care copay – commonly $25 to $75 depending on the plan – or the visit may apply to your deductible if you haven’t met it yet. CityDoc is in-network with most major plans; the list is on our insurance page.
Without insurance, or choosing not to use it, you pay the self-pay rate directly.
Here’s the part people miss: if you have a high-deductible plan and haven’t met your deductible, running the claim can cost you more than paying $135 out of pocket. Ask at check-in. We’ll tell you which is cheaper for your situation rather than defaulting to the claim.
How Walk-In Clinic Prices Compare to an ER Visit
This is where the gap gets real. UnitedHealthcare puts the median in-network cost of an emergency room visit at $1,700, against $135 for urgent care – roughly a $1,500 difference for the same complaint (UnitedHealthcare, 2023 network data). Federal data from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality puts the mean cost of a treat-and-release ED visit at $750 (HCUP Statistical Brief #311).
Those two figures measure different things – one is what insurers pay, the other is what the visit costs the hospital – and neither is a direct match for a self-pay rate. But the direction is consistent and it isn’t close. A sprained wrist treated at a walk-in clinic for $160 can run several times that in an emergency room, before the facility fee.
The ER is the right call for chest pain, difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, head injury, or anything you’d describe as life-threatening. For everything below that line, a walk-in clinic does the same work for a fraction of the price. We break the decision down further in our guide to urgent care vs. the emergency room.
What Makes Your Final Bill Go Up or Down
Four things move the number:
- How many tests you need. The first in-house lab is $25 and each additional lab adds $10. Most visits need one or none.
- Whether imaging is required: an X-ray adds $25.
- Whether a procedure is performed, stitches, drainage, and removals are billed on top of the visit fee.
- Insurance status and plan design. A copay, a deductible, and a self-pay rate are three different numbers.
What doesn’t move it: time of day, day of the week, or how busy we are. There’s no after-hours surcharge and no facility fee.
How to Keep Your Walk-In Visit Cost Down
- Ask for the self-pay rate before you hand over your card. If you haven’t met your deductible, self-pay is sometimes cheaper.
- Check in online. It doesn’t change the price, but it shortens the wait.
- Bring your medication list. It prevents repeat testing.
- Ask what a test will cost before it’s run. We’ll tell you. Every price is published.
- Bundle what you can. A physical and a flu shot in one visit beats two trips.
